I just thought I would post this to warn Investment property owners of my recent experience I have had with Carolyn Brenton from Harcourts at Mitchelton.
In the last week my partner and I have tried to apply to rent a property on Buckland Rd at Everton Hills for $650.00 per week. I had phoned Carolyn to explain to her that the property was of great interest and I would be prepared to pay well above the listed rent asked to secure this property. Carolyn proceeded to tell me that there was an application pending that had been submitted the day before and she was waiting for an answer back from the property owner. I then proceeded to ask if she could put forward my offer to the property owner which she declined. First application gets priority she explained and if the owner accepts this offer to bad. My partner and I where prepared to pay up to $800.00 per week to secure this property.
Considering my partner and I have investment property ourselves it is appalling to think that a Realestate Agent could not be bothered to contact an owner to advise them that they have an offer well above their listed rent that they may want to consider and a long term lease of two or three years. This fact is especially appalling when an application has not yet been approved at this stage.
What I cant afford is, having any sort of relationship with Harcourts Mitchelton. It is very insulting for a realestate property manager with very poor people skills to make assumptions on what i can afford and what I cant.

Thankyou for your response to my complaint. I would like to highlight the fact that I contacted your office because I had a couple of simple questions regarding my application which I had almost completed for this property. I clearly stated that was about to submit this application and I did ask Carolyn if the property was still available. I was clearly told that an application is currently being processed that would most likely be successful. Carolyn then stated the fact that she was waiting for a phone call back from the owner to approve this application and advised me not to bother submitting my application which I had taken the time to complete.
The only reason you did not receive that application which was ready for submission less than five minutes later was the fact I was clearly told not to bother submitting the application for that property.
I was certainly not told by Carolyn to submit my application and this is why i phoned back to offer a considerable amount of money more per week if my application would be reviewed for this property. This offer was refused and the owner of that property on Buckland Rd Everton Hills was not even informed of this offer in any way whatsoever.
I then applied for another property you have listed in Ferny Hills as you know, but withdrew my application due to the fact I was disgusted with Carolyns behaviour and was quite insulted by her assumption of what I can and cant afford. I simply do not support businesses that have poor customer service nor do I support poor business practices.
As a business owner myself I have zero tolerance for this sort of behaviour from staff and as an investment property owner i was horrified at the fact a property manager could not be bothered processing another application and told me clearly not to bother applying for this property because the owner would most likely accept the current application submitted.
I was certainly prepared provide the owner of this investment property with potentially another $7800.00 extra return on their property per annum and to secure this property for two years.
As I have a couple of friends and a family member that have rental Management Agreements currently in place with your company for their investment properties, I can assure you I will be strongly recommending they reconsider renewing those contracts with Harcourts.
You have certainly done a very good job of stretching the truth in your reply and I wish you all the best also.
